A benchmark study of clarity in enterprise communication, drawing on anonymized analysis of executive and internal communications across organizations using WritingToolsPro's communication intelligence platform.
Aggregated, anonymized clarity, readability, and audience-alignment scores from communication samples opted into the benchmark program. Samples were de-identified before analysis. Scores reflect WritingToolsPro's communication scoring system, which is detailed in the Research Methodology page.
Communication clarity scores cluster at the high and low ends, with relatively few mid-range samples — suggesting that organizations either invest in clarity systematically or do not.
Counter-intuitively, executive communication scored lower on clarity than internal communication overall, likely reflecting the additional pressure to hedge and signal in executive registers.
Samples drafted with AI assistance showed dramatic improvement at the low end of the distribution but converged with non-AI samples at the high end.
