Data We Collect
We collect account data you provide (name, email, organization, password hashes), product usage data (writing activity within the product, feature usage, performance telemetry), content you submit to our writing features (the text you ask us to process), and standard technical data (IP address, browser type, device, request logs). When you connect third-party services, we collect data necessary to operate those connections.
How We Use Data
We use data to operate the product, authenticate you, provide AI-assisted writing features, personalize your experience, respond to support requests, send service notifications, prevent abuse, comply with legal obligations, and improve the product. We do not sell personal data. We do not use customer-submitted text to train third-party AI models.
Legal Bases (GDPR)
Where the GDPR applies, we process personal data under: contract (to provide the services you signed up for), legitimate interests (to operate and secure the product, prevent fraud, and improve features in non-intrusive ways), consent (for optional features such as marketing communications and personalization), and legal obligation (to comply with applicable law).
Sharing
We share data with subprocessors who operate parts of the product (cloud infrastructure, AI gateway, payment processing, transactional email, analytics). Subprocessors are bound by written agreements requiring confidentiality and appropriate security. We share data with law enforcement only when legally required and we notify affected users when permitted.
Retention
We retain account data for the life of the account. We retain writing content for as long as needed to provide the product, plus a short backup window. Backups are deleted on rolling schedules. Inactive accounts are notified before deletion. Specific retention periods by data category are available on request.
Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you have rights to access, correct, delete, port, and object to processing of your personal data. To exercise these rights, write to privacy@writingtoolspro.com. We respond within the timeframes required by applicable law (typically 30 days). We do not discriminate against users who exercise privacy rights.
International Transfers
We operate globally and may transfer personal data across borders. International transfers from the EEA, UK, and Switzerland rely on European Commission adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses. Details are available in our Data Processing Addendum.
Children
The product is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We protect personal data with administrative, technical, and physical safeguards proportionate to the risk. No system is perfectly secure; we work continuously to reduce risk and respond promptly to incidents.
Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be announced before they take effect. The 'last updated' date below records the current version.
